WELCOME TO SIMPSON MIDDLE SCHOOL
STEAM OVERVIEW |
MISSION: |
Simpson Middle school has set and achieved the goal of simplifying the foundation of teaching and preparing for innovation. Our STEAM Key team, compromised of our STEAM trained teacher leaders and administrators is guiding our instructional program. These STEAM key team teachers regularly attend professional learning sessions and plan STEAM goals and activities for the school. The STEAM program at Simpson is comprised of a variety of integrating, collaborating, and meaningful parts. Simpson realizes that STEAM education is a necessary part of innovative education and not just an add-on.
We implement weekly STEAM block team collaboration sessions in addition to the STEAM instruction provided throughout the school day. Each grade level has a teacher STEAM leader that guides the weekly sessions. Parents and members from the community are regular participants in the sessions by supporting student engagement in hands on learning. The STEAM program at Simpson reaches all content areas. Simpson recognize that the traditional STEM model is important- but we believe the addition of art, music, language arts, social studies, and reading help students grow and push them further in all facets of learning. Teachers are incorporating DBQ’s and Close Reading strategies throughout STEAM interdisciplinary units in an effort to integrate our passion for STEAM. This allows us to more easily incorporate STEAM into all standards, not just traditional STEM. Simpson has chosen to pursue whole school STEAM certification in an effort to give each child the ability to collaborate, innovate, and develop real life critical and creative thinking skills that will help them in real world applications. |
The mission of Simpson Middle School is to facilitate life-long learning through a multitude of educational experiences that enable students to become self-directed learners, perceptive thinkers, and effective oral and written communicators. By developing these skills, students become contributors in the school and in the diverse world.

BACKGROUND
Simpson Middle School has a continued effort to incorporate technology into each subject area. We have been adding labs and computer carts in order to facilitate new types of learning. Simpson participates in the Bring your Own Device (BYOD) program and students are able to experience the fluidity of using apps and programs to influence learning. We have 7 computer labs (including the 2 STEM labs), a flexible learning space lab in the media center, and multiple laptop and IPad carts available for teacher checkout. We believe the use of technology and the incorporation of hands on learning and performance based, real world learning experiences help our students rise to high level thinking.
