Mathematics students designed and built gingerbread houses. They first randomly chose criteria for their house then planned their best design to meet those criteria. Using their proposed design as well as a budget, students determined which materials would be most important to complete their house. After choosing their materials and considering the interplay between them, students began constructing their houses. As they constructed, they looked for flaws in their designs and made improvements to help increase their success. Finally, they presented their design to the class, defended their choices of materials, and explained how they met the criteria challenges for their houses.

Students were to use knowledge of heat transfer and specific heat to create three koozies to use as a free give a way from their ice cream vendor booth outside the new Atlanta Braves stadium. Each of the three koozies were tested with ice cream to determine witch should be the prototype selected to present in their pitch to the stadium committee to become a vendor. Students summarized their data and created a PowerPoint along with a vendor application letter as parts of their PBL.
